Book Review #1~ The Selection by Kiera Cass
"For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself--and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined."
Well, when I first picked up this book, I couldn't put it down since this is one of my favorite series. Starting with the cover, it's wonderful and actually summarizes a part of the story about America Singer.
*Further Reading Contains Major Spoilers*
So basically, this is another one of those books where there's a girl who's facing not only internal conflicts dealing with emotions, but also externally with the entire kingdom.
America is a lovestruck 16 year old whose mother was forcing her to sign up for the Selection. She signs up because her secret boyfriend makes her because he felt bad not being able to do anything for her since he was a caste below her. After she signs up, he breaks up with her and she's more than ever hoping to get out of there. She goes to live in the castle and doesn't really enjoy the Prince's attitude and ends up being friends with him. She starts to fall for him when Aspen becomes a guard. This is very much of a cliche type of thing but anyway, she ends up finding it hard to decide, but she tells him to stay away from her pretty much so she actually has a chance of succeeding. If not then she'll happily go to him. Long story short after a bunch of problems that happen like her being stupid and getting kicked out but returning after saving the Prince's life, she finds out that she really likes him, possibly love and she's gonna try her hardest at succeeding not only for the Prince and the riches, but for herself as well.
There's the second book called The Elite which I will also post a blog about soon so stay tuned! Also, as soon as the 3rd book called The One releases, I will make sure to do that as well as the 1/2 books from the Prince's and Aspen's point of view.
